She began her career in the industry as a young girl, having won local competitions at the age of 10 and recording her first album when she was 14 years old. The year 1987 was when she released her debut solo album following joining Rounder Records. The band invited her to join the group with who she continues to perform Alison Krauss and Union Station and released her first album with them as a group in the year 1989.
